Recall for pathogenic agents: frozen foods contaminated with listeria

The manufacturer Frenzel Tiefkühlwerke GmbH has started a recall for the product "Frenzel Leipziger Allerlei, 450 g". It cannot be excluded that the frozen vegetables are contaminated with listeria. These bacteria can cause nausea and vomiting, among other things.

Dangerous bacteria in food

Reports of pathogens causing disease in frozen foods have been piling up recently. In recent times, several deaths from dangerous bacteria in frozen foods have been recorded in parts of Europe. And only a few days ago it became known that listeria was discovered in frozen vegetable articles at Lidl. Another producer has now started a recall of frozen foods.

Frozen product contaminated with listeria

As the retail chains Kaufland and Globus report, the manufacturer Frenzel Tiefkühlwerke GmbH is recalling the product “Frenzel Leipziger Allerlei, 450 g”.

According to the information, only the batch: M8 108 F3, MHD 04/2020 is affected by the recall.

"It cannot be excluded that the frozen product is contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes," said a company announcement.

Consumption is strongly discouraged

Listeria can cause so-called “listeriosis” in humans. The condition can cause flu-like symptoms such as vomiting, muscle pain, diarrhea and fever.

As a rule, the disease takes a harmless course in healthy adults, but: "For certain groups of people (pregnant women, small children, the elderly and immunocompromised), very serious course of the disease can occur", write the retail chains.

Due to this health risk, customers should therefore pay attention to the recall and not consume the affected products.

The affected product can be returned in all sales branches. The purchase price will also be reimbursed without presentation of the receipt. (ad)
