Pus in the body - what is it?
Pus is a fluid that often occurs in connection with inflammatory reactions. Usually pus has a whitish-yellowish to green-bluish color and can appear both thick and thin. Pus mainly consists of proteins and detritus, a pulpy mass that arises when cells and tissues decay. If pus emerges from an inflammation or wound, this process is called suppuration or suppuration. Pus often arises as a result of inflammation, such as an abscess, hair root infection or otitis media. Most people, however, know pus in connection with pimples or acne.

Is pus a good sign?
Pus arises as a natural defense reaction of the body and is a biological breakdown product. In classical medicine, pus was still called "Pus bonum et laudabile", the good commendable pus. Even then, people knew in medicine that pus has an important role in wound healing. White blood cells (leukocytes) fight the pathogens in the area of inflammation. As a result, pus forms, which consists of the dead remains of leukocytes, tissue residues, bacteria and some blood serum. Pus bumps should never be expressed yourself. The bacteria only get deeper into the tissue and the inflammation worsens. Inflammation with pus should be observed closely and clarified with a doctor if it does not heal in a short time. (vb)
