Drugstore chain Rossmann launches recall for baby milk food from Lactalis

The French dairy company Lactalis launched a worldwide recall campaign for baby milk products a few weeks ago. The product concerned could be contaminated with Salmonella. The German drugstore chain Rossmann is now recalling certain batches of baby milk from the French company.

Worldwide recall for Lactalis baby milk products

The French dairy company Lactalis launched a worldwide recall for baby milk products in early December because of a possible risk of salmonella. These bacteria can cause diarrhea and other health problems. In the meantime, 83 countries have been affected by the scandal. In Germany, the group mainly has cheese from the brands Président, Galbani or Salakis in supermarkets. According to the company, the company does not sell baby milk in this country. However, Rossmann had previously sold Lactalis baby formula. The German drugstore chain is now recalling these products.

French company produced for Rossmann

According to a Rossmann message, the drugstore chain and Lactalis have no longer had a supplier relationship with the affected products since November 2016.

"Previously, the French company had been producing dairy foods for the ROSSMANN Babydream brand," the company writes.

As part of the recall, Lactalis confirmed that all milk food products ever made for Rossmann were always flawless and there was no suspicion of contamination.

Milk foods in Germany are subject to strict legal criteria. The drugstore chain says it works with independent laboratories that carry out quality controls on Babydream milk foods.

"The Babydream milk food products tested by ROSSMANN met all health requirements," says the message.

The affected product was last manufactured in 2016

According to the information, all Babydream milk foods produced and affected by Lactalis were last manufactured in mid-2016. The last sale of a babydream product of this manufacture was therefore in mid-2017.

As a result, none of these milk food products are in the Rossmann branches or warehouses anymore.

Since late 2016, the Babydream milk foods in Germany have been produced by another brand manufacturer.

The products differ in terms of their "Made in Germany" and "Made in the EU" imprints - they recognize the new products by the "Made in Germany" imprint.

Goods with the note "Made in the EU"

The Lactalis company, in consultation with the French authorities, has decided, as a precautionary measure, to recall all milk foods produced in the Craon plant concerned.

Rossmann supports this approach. The drugstore chain asks its customers to stop using all Babydream milk products with the label "Made in the EU" and to bring them back to the nearest Rossmann store.

The purchase price will also be reimbursed without presentation of the receipt.

Products should no longer be used

The following Babydream milk foods are labeled "Made in the EU" and should no longer be used:
